I spent part of my summer holidays in Sweden and wanted to read a good Swedish book. Since there are no translations of Nils Holgersson available (!), I bought a copy of The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out Of A Window And Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson.
A lovely book, with lots of humor and silly fiction. Perhaps not what the Swedish would call 'skönlitteratur', but an absolutely fantastic book to read in the shade of your tent at a campsite south of Mälaren.
Which is incidentally (accidentally?) the area where the book starts. So I took a little tour to see Byringe Station where - spoiler alerts! - the first murder happens. Then I went to see the foundry at Åker where they got rid of the body. The foundry - that really makes canons, by the way - in turn is close to the townsquare where Benny's hotdogstand is supposed to have stood.
Now, since I'm Always the last to know, I've found the book has been turned into a movie! From the trailer I can see that the filmmakers didn't follow the storyline of the book exactly, but I'm delighted to see there is an elephant present, that's sitting down....
